With some senior IAS officers and former Mining Minister in the Samajwadi Party government already facing heat of the mining scam, sources said that former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav could also face trouble as the CBI might issue summon to him any time for recording his statement in the matter.
Sources said that the documents and some papers recovered in the raids conducted so far in the mining scam pointed that between 2012 and 2016, 24 mining leases were sanctioned out of which two-thirds were issued when then Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was holding the Mining portfolio and the remaining when Gayatri Prasad Prajapati was the Mining Minister. All these leases were sanctioned on recommendations in violation of the laid norms for sanctioning mining lease through e-tendering.
The sources confirmed that the CBI team recovered some documents from the Bulandshahr district magistrate’s residence on Wednesday and they indicated that Akhilesh Yadav sanctioned the mining leases.
Besides, the CBI recovered some recommendation letters, some pages in which signatures, over-writing, cuttings over signatures in different inks, and a paper slip in which some amounts have been mentioned.
According to sources, the CBI would discuss the recovery with their counterparts in the Enforcement Directorate which is also probing the mining scam and after preparing a charge-sheet, both the agencies might issue summons to the former Chief Minister of UP.
It may be mentioned that the CBI has already registered two fresh cases this week besides conducting raids in the houses of some bureaucrats including DM of Bulandshahr, Abhay Singh. In the first case, the CBI has named Abhay Singh (2007 batch IAS officer), another senior IAS officer of 1985 batch, Jiwesh Nandan, IAS Santosh Kumar (2005 batch).
