Modi to launch several projects in Jhansi today

Friday, 15 February 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jhansi on Friday where he will dedicate to nation and lay foundation stones of various development projects, including the defence industrial corridor.

During the UP Investors’ Summit in the state capital last year, the Prime Minister had announced the setting up of a defence industrial corridor in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh.

A government spokesman said here on Thursday that to make India self-reliant in defence production, the Government of India had taken the decision to establish two defence industrial corridors in the country — one in Tamil Nadu and the other in Jhansi.

“The Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation various projects, including electrification of 297-km-long Jhansi-Khairar section. Electrification of this section will lead to faster train movement, reduced carbon emissions and sustainable environment,” the spokesman said.

Modi will also dedicate to the nation the West- North Inter-Region Power Transmission Strengthening Project to ensure uninterrupted power supply to western UP.

“The Prime Minister will dedicate to nation the Pahari dam modernisation project,” the spokesman said.

Pahari dam is a water storage dam on the Dhasan river in Jhansi district.

Keeping in line with the government’s vision of providing drinking water to all, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of piped water scheme for the rural areas of Bundelkhand region.

The project is significant as it will ensure water supply to the drought-prone Bundelkhand region.

The foundation stone of Jhansi city drinking water scheme phase-II under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) will also be laid by the Prime Minister.

Modi will also lay the foundation stone of Coach Refurbishing Workshop in Jhansi. The facility would create employment opportunities in the Bundelkhand region, the spokesman said.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of doubling of 425-km Jhansi-Manikpur and Bhimsen-Khairar railway lines.

This would not only provide easy movement of trains but also help in the overall development of the Bundelkhand region, the spokesman said.
