A Muslim intellectual forum, Indian Muslims For Peace, has appealed to the Muslim side contesting the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit to offer their portion of the land to Hindus for construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Suggesting that out-of-court settlement should be the way to solve the vexed Ayodhya issue, the organisation said Muslims should not oppose construction of Ram temple at Ram Janmabhoomi complex.
A proposal was issued by the organisation during a press conference here on Thursday after a meeting of Muslim intellectuals at a hotel.
“Even if the Muslim side wins the case in the Supreme Court, then too their share of land should be handed over to the Hindu side for the construction of Ram temple,” the Indian Muslims For Peace said.
The proposal urges the government to protect the religious places of Muslims and their property and ensure that Hindus do not demand ownership of land at other religious sites.
Prominent Muslim intellectuals who attended the meeting included former IAS officer Anis Ansari, former IPS officer Nisar Ahmed, Lt Gen (Retd) Zamiruddin Shah, Padma Shri Mansoor Ahmed and former UP minister Moid Ahmed.
