After a long wait, the online property tax payment facility which has been pending for a long time is set to start from April 22. As per the officials, the online service failed to start earlier due to technical issues and the coordination issues with the banks. However, finally, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has tied up with a private bank which will soon operate the online property tax payment service.
Talking to the media on Thursday, Dehradun municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “The online payment service failed to start earlier as we were having technical problems. Further, the tie up with banks was not reaching the final shape. However, finally all of these issues have been resolved and we will be opening the online payment service soon. MCD has tied up with the IndusInd Bank, the formalities are under process and online property tax payment will start from April 22.”
It is important to mention that the MCD currently lacks updated data of the property taxpayers in the provisional state capital. Currently, MCD has only about 65,000 property taxpayers from the old 60 wards on record.
When asked about this Pandey said, “To work on this swiftly we have formed four teams of the tax officers. They will further visit and mark the property for which tax is not being paid to the MCD. The first warning will be given by the official to the owner of the property to which he/she has to reply in 15 days. Also, strict action will be taken on the taxpayers who fail to submit the tax.”
