Organisational structure to be further strengthened

Wednesday, 19 June 2019 | Nishu Mahajan | Chandigarh

Setting eyes on “Mission 75” in Haryana Assembly elections, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has swung into action to cement its organizational structure at the ground level in all 90 assembly constituencies in the state.

The saffron party will hold mandal-level meetings from July 1 to 10 to review its organizational base and chalk out strategy to strengthen its roots and make inroads into opposition’s bastion in Haryana.

The state organizational in-charges, Ministers, MLAs among others will hold these meetings on as many as 290 mandals.

During the general elections 2019, the BJP had penetrated into voter list by appointing lakhs of panna pramukhs, who had worked under booth incharge and respective Shakti Kendras in the state. The panna pramukhs were given a single page of voter list which included a maximum of 50 voters and a responsibility to connect with these voters, atleast thrice before the polling day.

In view of further strengthening the organizational structure ahead of State Assembly  polls due to be held in October, the state BJP has now decided to review its functioning and performance in around 20000 booths in the state.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal had recently announced that the party has set an ambitious target of winning 75 seats out of total 90 in the State Assembly polls and will review its organizational structure at booth level and make amends, wherever required.

In recently concluded parliamentary elections, the saffron party, while riding high on “Modi wave” had not only won all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana but had also maintained its lead in as many as 79 assembly constituencies out of total 90 assembly seats.

The results, however, did bring bad news for two Cabinet Ministers in the Manohar Lal Khattar Government. The BJP candidates had trailed in the assembly constituencies of Narnaund and Badli of Jat leaders—Finance Minister Capt. Abhimayu and Agriculture Minister OP Dhankar—respectively in general elections.

“The party’s performance at about 20000 booths in the state will be reviewed during the mandal-level meetings from July 1-10. Accordingly, a plan will be formulated to improve the party’s performance, where it did not do well in Lok Sabha polls,” said a senior party leader.

He said that the party gives grading of A, B, C to assembly constituencies, according to the winning margins and performance and consequently, preparations are made and goals are set to improve the performance in that assembly segment. The party had won on 79 assembly constituencies in Lok Sabha polls, the party leader said.

Besides focusing on cementing its base at grassroot level, the saffron party will now also be working on increasing its membership base right from the booth level. The membership drive will also begin from July 6 in the state, he added.

Buoyed by its victory in Lok Sabha polls, the BJP had organized “Karyakarta Abhinandan Samaroh” in all districts to express gratitude towards party workers for working diligently in the polls and to call upon them to work hard for a victory in the State Assembly elections due to be held in next four months.

In 2014 Vidhan Sabha elections, the BJP had won 47 seats in the 90-member Assembly and had managed to make its maiden State Government in Haryana on its own. Currently, the ruling BJP has 48 MLAs while principal opposition party-Congress has 17 MLAs in the State Assembly.

Notably, Haryana BJP unit has entered into a poll alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal under which the SAD had supported the saffron party in the parliamentary elections and would now be given appropriate number of seats in the State Assembly elections.

The SAD led by the Badals— father-son duo of Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir— is a key ally of the BJP-led NDA at the Centre.
