Panchayat polls schedule postponed for third time

Friday, 23 August 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

For the third time in succession, the state administration has postponed the schedule of the Panchayat elections in 12 districts of the state. In an order, the secretary in-charge of Panchayati raj, Ranjit Sinha said on Thursday that the schedule would be postponed by 5 days.

As per the revised programme, the interim publications of reservations would be done August 27. On these proposals, the objections can be placed on 27 and 28 August. On August 29 and 30 these objections would be disposed of by respective district magistrates. Final publication of reservation proposals would be done on August 31 and these proposals would be sent to directorate on the same day. The proposals of reservations would be sent to state election commission on September 1.

It is learnt that the schedule of the Panchayat reservations is being suspended as the officials are facing pressure from the leaders on reservation status of the three tier panchayat bodies.

More than 65000 panchayat representatives in 12 districts of Uttarakhand would be elected in three tier Panchayati raj system.

The tenure of Panchayats in all the districts of Uttarakhand barring Haridwar ended in July this year after which the state government has appointed administrators in the Panchayats.
