Passerby killed by stray bullet after criminals fire at police in Nand Nagari

A 50-year-old passerby was killed by a bullet  which was fired by some criminals at police personnel in his bid to flee from Nand Nagri area of North East Delhi on late Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Raju, a resident of Harsh Vihar.

According to Atul Kumar Thakur, the DCP, North East District, on Monday night at around 11.39 PM when constable Ajay who is posted in Nand Nagri police station was passing through Tanga stand Nand nagri area he saw some suspicious persons sitting in a Swift Desire car."

"On seeing police, the persons sittig in the car tried to ran away but were chased by the constable. During the chase, a man from the car opened fired at the constable but the bullet hit one passerby and they managed to flee away," said the DCP.

"The victim was immediately rushed to GTB Hospital where he was declared bought dead by the doctors. Later on, the deceased was identified as Raju," said Thakur.

"Police have registered a case under section  302 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and teams have been formed to nab the accused. Police teams are looking for CCTV footage in the area to trace the criminals," said the DCP adding that further investigation is going on.
