The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has prepared a Detail Project Report (DPR) to ease Old Delhi road traffic movement. The authority plans to build slip roads, cycle tracks, footpaths and also install traffic signals along with traffic booths on the stretch to decongest traffic.

Four major traffic junctions on the corridor have been identified by the civic body where the plan will be implemented and these points are Jwala mill, Sector-18, Sector-21 and Hanuman chowk have been identified by the MCG where the development work will take place. The estimated cost of the project will be around Rs 6 crore. “The project DPR had been prepared by the private agency. These four traffic junctions were also included in the survey for the development work. During the survey, the agency had worked on traffic volume, sleep road and space available on the stretch,” a senior MCG official on the condition of anonymity, said.

To begin with, the corporation has decided to install a traffic signal, traffic booth, cycle tracks, and sleep road along with some basic street designing. MCG officials said some cuts on the stretch, which often lead to traffic jams, will also be closed to ensure easy movement.

“Hundreds of Multinational companies, Auto Industries and Export Houses are situated on the road. Once the project work will be completed thousands of workers will not face any jam problems during the peak hours,” the official, said.

As of now, the stretch connected with the Sector-18, 21, 22, 23, Palam Vihar, old city, Udyog Vihar, Kapashera in Delhi, Dundahera Village, Sarhaul Village, Mulahera Village, and the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway near Shankar Chowk and Iffco Chowk.

According to a senior MCG official, “The illegal cut creates a slow movement of traffic. The congestion is further increased due to a bus stop and parking of autos. Also, the traffic volume on the road is very high”.

“The project report has been forwarded to the MCG Commissioner. Once we received an approval a work order will be issued. We will leave space for pedestrians and non-motorised vehicles,” he said.
