Plastic surgeries transforming society: Experts

The importance of Plastic surgery cannot be undermined in transforming the society and lifestyle of people in need of it, concluded experts at a Continuing Medical Education (CME) organised at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) , aimed at enlightening the audience, mainly medical professionals, students and faculties with the scope and opportunities in the field of Plastic Surgery here on Monday.

The seminar also strived to encourage RIMS authorities to open up a Plastic Surgery Department, still absent in all three government medical colleges of the State.

On the event of World Plastic Surgery Day, delivering the message, renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Anant Sinha, said, “Plastic Surgery is the most misunderstood branch of Medical Science. People think it concerns with cosmetics and aesthetics of the body but that is just 10 per cent of it, the rest 90 per cent deals with restoration of crucial body forms and functions.”

The speakers of the event also threw light upon the vital uses of plastic surgery in medical healthcare sector and discussed numerous case studies of patients with acid burn, cracker burn, trauma and accident, amputated body part. Facts and other medical technicalities regarding the process were vividly presented. They also discussed various other uses and techniques of plastic surgery in cleft treatment, hair grafting, Rhinoplasty, Adminoplasty, Hypospadias to mention a few.

“It was indeed a very informative and interactive seminar on Plastic Surgery. As budding medical practitioners we should be well equipped with the new advancements and developments in the area of Medical Science,” said a medical student who attended the event. “It can prove to be all the way more beneficial to those of us who would opt to specialise in Plastic Surgery,” he added.

The event  had a list of esteemed guests and experts to make the students pursuing MBBS and PG in RIMS aware of the latest advancement in the field of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. V Bhattacharya, professor at BHU and former President of Association of Plastic Surgeon of India graced the seminar as the Chief Guest.
