Rallies against no single-use plastic, awareness drive organised

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) organised public awareness programme in all its four zones against single-use plastic. A number of rallies were also taken out in different markets on Thursday by the civic body.

The corporation officials along with local residents visited markets and mandis to collect plastic bags spread on the street and hand it over to SDMC staff for disposal.

A pledge was administered to the venders and shopkeepers under South Zone for not selling their goods in plastic bags. A public awareness campaign was also launched in many localities.

A senior SDMC official said that the school children holding placards took out rallies in different parts of the locality, took pledge to make anti-plastic campaign successful, market associations arranged meetings to educate traders on not selling items in plastic bags. "Whereas RWA office bearers visited large number of dwelling units to inspire residents to handover plastic waste to the voluntary workers to further send it for the disposal to SDMC," he added.
