Rumour-mongers creating obstacles

Thursday, 18 July 2019 | PNS | Jamshedpur

With rumour-mongers creating obstacles in successful implementation of farmer’s welfare schemes, the East Singhbhum administration has threatened to initiate stern measures against them.

East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla and SSP Anoop Birtharay said that intelligence reports have come from rural areas about rumour-mongers  spreading fear in the minds of farmers in availing benefits of the Center and State welfare schemes.

“As per our confirmed information from almost all the blocks (11 in the district), a few anti-social elements are spreading rumours that farmers availing benefits of farmers welfare schemes will have to part with their agricultural plot in the days to come. We would like to warn such elements that all the thanas and BDOs will act if any such cases come to light again and they will be arrested as per provision of law,” said Ravi Shankar Shukla.

The deputy commissioner went on to inform that they will be identifying such elements. Action would be taken as per section 353 of the IPC against such elements.

“These elements will be charged under Section 353 of the IPC for trying to deter public servants in execution of duty as their activities directly affect execution of welfare schemes,” said Anoop Birtharay.

Significantly, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) an initiative announced during the 2019 interim Union Budget on February 1 benefits will be provided to all small and marginal farmers families having total cultivable holdings of up to 2 hectares (5 acres).

This will be provided in 3 equal installments of Rs 2,000 each in a period of every four months in a financial year.

In Jharkhand, Mukhyamantri Krishi Ashirwad Yojana, announced by Raghubar Das in December 21 last year is integrated with PM-Kisan scheme. Under Mukhyamantri Krishi Ashirwad Yojana, State farmers will get Rs 5,000 per acre for their kharif crops.

Nearly 35 lakh farmers have been identified on the basis of 2015-16 agriculture census.

Meanwhile, 20 farmers from the 11 blocks were also presented before the media by the district administration who had received first installment under PM-Kisan scheme.
