Delhi Customs officials have arrested a Russian woman for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country growth hormone medicines worth Rs 32 lakh at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in national Capital.
According to a senior Customs official, the accused was intercepted after her arrival from Hongkong on Thursday.
“She was stopped by officials and during a detailed personal and baggage search of the passenger resulted in the recovery of Zptropin and Somatropin medicines having total market value of Rs 32.16 lakh,” said the senior Customs official.
“The passenger is married to an Indian man. The duo runs a chain of gyms in Haryana, mainly in Gurugram. On enquiry, she revealed that her husband was waiting outside the airport to collect the medicines,” said the official.
“Acting on her inputs, her husband was also apprehended from outside the Delhi airport. The duo has been arrested under section 104 of Customs act and the medicines have been seized. The medicines, which act as growth hormone, were smuggled into India for its further illegal sale to their gym members,” said the senior Customs official.
