School students enjoy movies at JIFFA

Over 5000 students from more than 10 schools of the city got a chance to enjoy the screening of various movies on the second day of Jharkhand Film Festival Awards (JIFFA) 2019 on Saturday.

From silent film ‘Hunger’ to patriotic documentary LOC, the school students got a chance to watch a variety of movies at the festival. A number of short films like ‘Inner Clock - To Be Yourself, Rooh’, a Nagpuri video album and Hindi short film ‘Perception’, were screened for the students, who did not just had a gala time but also acted as critics for these movies.

Ankit Kumar, a student of class 9 who sat through the screening of various films said, “I really enjoyed ‘LOC’ and ‘Inner Clock’, which was a USA made film. However, I was not very impressed by ‘Pagli’.”

Students of class 8, 9 and 11 of various schools including Sarala Birla Public School, DAV Kapildev, DAV Gandhinagar, DAV Bariatu, St. Michael's School and many others got a chance to see the film screening and meet the local and international celebrities.

After the screening, French actor and dancer Mariannen Borgo got a few students on the stage and taught them some of her dance moves.

Research scholar and film maker from Uzbekistan, Dil Afrosh, who participated in JIFFA said, "India and Uzbekistan have old cultural bond. In our country, we have universities named after Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri where Yoga and other subjects are taught."

Veteran Israeli filmmaker, Dan Wolman, whose films have been screened at a number of national and international film festivals including Cannes, Venice and Berlin film festival, was one of the special guests of the programme.

Talking to the media he said, "I am enjoying my stay here in Jharkhand. Three fourth of my new project has already been completed and now after coming here, I am planning to shoot the remaining one fourth of the film in Jharkhand."

Apart from school students, a number of other viewers got a chance to see film screening at the festival. Manasi Singh, a college student who attended the festival with her friends said, “I got a chance to see a number of such beautifully made movies which we cannot see on television or cinema halls. I hope such events are organized on a regular basis for film buffs like me and my friends.”

A total of 27 films were screened on the second day which concluded with friendly cricket match between celebrities, Jharkhand government officials and media persons.
