Seminar on ‘Christianity and Good Governance’ held at Raj Bhavan

Thursday, 26 December 2019 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Governor Lalji Tandon said in a seminar organised on ‘Christianity and Good Governance’ at Raj Bhavan that love, affection, kindness and compassion should reign in the society and everyone should be happy, educated and peaceful. This should be the form of good governance.

He said that the life of great men inspires us to bear with suffering ourselves but work for the welfare of humanity. Humanity will have to follow the lives of such great men, so that an atmosphere of peace and harmony can be created in the world.

The Governor said that every member of society is a creation of God. Therefore the discrimination of rich and poor, high and low is not appropriate.

Equality, justice, compassion and love are the basis of good governance. He said that different religions are different paths to reach the same destination. Jesus Christ, Lord Rama, Krishna, Buddha, Mahavira and Mohammad Sahab all have given the message of peace and humanity in their lives.

They made efforts to relieve the pain of others. Shri Tandon said that Jesus Christ himself bore suffering but worked for the welfare of others.

He himself got crucified for the benefit of others. Good governance is the feeling of working by taking pains for the happiness of others. The Governor said that it has been said in the Vedas that whatever is there is not ours, because we came empty handed and will go empty handed. Everything that we want in life, others also want the same. Working with this sentiment is good governance.

The Governor said that Mahamana Late. Madan Mohan Malviya spent his whole life in the spread of higher education by saving every single rupee to free the common man from the darkness of illiteracy.

He made efforts to establish equality by eliminating educational discrimination in society, by establishing a university.

He said that the personality of former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee was also dedicated to the welfare of others.

He was the first politician to establish the concept of good governance. His words were “God do not let me go up so high that I cannot embrace my own people, and cannot meet my own people.” Vajpayee’s feelings of not being hostile towards anyone, behaving equally with all and fighting relentlessly against injustice had built up his personality.

The basic mantra of his administration was equality and sensitivity. This is also the basic element of good governance.

Fr Maria Stephen said that the basis of the country’s development is selfless service. Post is temporary, sense of service is permanent. Human life is for others. Lord Jesus Christ has given this message through his life.

This is the basis of good governance. Administration is to work for the upliftment of the poor, deprived, weaker sections and people, for the well being of all.

Let everyone be happy, this is good governance. He said that Bharat Ratna former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee was one such

administrator.
