Mired in another controversy for his “love” for Pakistan, Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday decided to skip that state Cabinet meeting to be held to approve the state Budget that has to be tabled in the Vidhan Sabha on Monday.
Sidhu has been under ire of people across all sections, including his own party men over his statements over the Pulwama attack.
Notably, Sidhu had earlier skipped a Cabinet meeting held right after his “captain” remarks against Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.
A day after Pulwama suicide attack, Sidhu had virtually defended his “friend” and Pakistan Prime Minister saying that “nations cannot be blamed for a handful of people”.
“There are good, bad and ugly people in our lives. Every place, institution and nation has them. The ugly needs to be punished, but individuals cannot be blamed for a dastardly act...Nations cannot be blamed just for a handful of people. These people have no country, no religion. They act as deterrents in peace process. We need to deal with them strictly,” Sidhu had said while maintaining that peace talks with Pakistan should continue.
Sidhu’s statement has drawn widespread condemnation. “It is his way of ducking from the controversy...he did not attend the meeting because he know that he would be taken for task by all of us for his statements,” said a Minister after the meeting.
