Following the instructions of Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Arun Mohan Joshi, district police arrested one smuggler with 610 grammes smack. According to the information provided by local police, the alleged smuggler has been identified as Khurshid (40), who is a native of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. During initial interrogation, the accused Khurshid admitted that he has been smuggling smack for the last 10 years.
Speaking with media, SSP Joshi said, “The 610 grammes of smack we seized from the accused is worth about Rs 55 lakh. The accused was planning to go to Himachal Pradesh after his peddlers refused to buy smack.”
According to the information provided by local police, after receiving information through human intelligence about a suspicious person travelling with a bulk stock of smack, a team was established under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (SP) Shweta Choubey.
During the checking procedure of vehicles at night, police suspected a person sitting in the roadways bus of Himachal Pradesh Transport Corporation. On his checking, the bulk stock of drugs was found.
During the interrogation, the accused Khurshid told the police that nearly 10 years ago, he started selling smack with his partner Farukh. Later, because of increasing appetite for money, he started mixing chemical and preparing smack himself. Then, he expanded his business to sell smack in Dehradun also.
He used to sell smack at school, colleges and other areas through peddlers. This time also, he carried the bulk amount of smack to sell, but his peddlers refused to take them as the police had started to raid continuously, upon learning that he decided to go to the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh to sell the drug.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the last one month in the campaign that is being conducted in the district against alcohol and drug abuse, district police, so far, have seized 4,386 bottles of alcohol, 4.75 kilogrammes of Hashish, 29.20 kilogrammes of marijuana, 2,477 tablets, 864 capsules and 1.24 kilogrammes of smack.
According to local police, the total seized contraband amounts to about Rs 1.50 crore in the international market.
