After firming up their alliance in Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha polls, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party are likely to extend the bonhomie to Uttarakhand. Though neither party has made any announcement in this regard so far, the SP has not ruled out the possibility.
Sources in the SP claimed that party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s wife and Kannauj MP Dimple Yadav, who happens to be from Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, could be the face of the alliance in the hill state.
“However, a final decision in this regard will be taken by the party brass. We will not hesitate in going for any kind of alliance to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party, anywhere,” SP spokesperson Sunil Singh Sajan said.
The sources also said that the strategy of the party had been finalised for UP and party workers would be reaching out to the people of every ward to make them aware of the Union government’s failures.
The 2014 general elections witnessed the BJP bagging all five Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand, while the BSP managed to clinch the second place on Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar seat and second runner-up position on Haridwar seat.
The SP has never won any seat in successive Assembly polls in Uttarakhand since it was created in 2000. The BSP has a sizeable presence in the hill state and won 6-7 seats in the previous Assembly polls.
