The Student Traffic Volunteer Scheme (STVS) was inaugurated by Central Range IG Soumendra Kumar Priyadarshi here recently to regulate traffic and create awareness about road safety among people. The volunteers, to be provided with requisite training, would assist the traffic police in traffic management in the town. Besides, they would also be involved in traffic awareness. They have been given identity cards, certificates, shoes, caps and T-shirts. Sources said that about 60 volunteers from the Prananath College have been chosen in the scheme and they would man the traffic at different major intersections in the town with Traffic Constables or Home Guards.
Among others, Khordha SP Dipti Ranjan Ray, Nayagarh SP Sashi Bhusan Satpathy, former Nayagarh SP Debi Prasad Majumdar, PN College Principal Major Dushmat Kumar Routray, former Khordha MLA Jyotirindra Nath Mitra, Additional SPs P Krutibas Jena, Pramod Kumar Samantray, SDPO Jugal Kishore Das, DSPs Bijay Kumar Mallick and Satish Kumar Padhy were present.
