Students meet green activist Sunderlal Bahuguna

Saturday, 25 May 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

Noted environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna said that decreasing needs is vital for protecting the environment. He said this while replying to students from Manava Bharati schools of Patna and Dehradun who visited him at his residence here on Friday as part of the school’s Uttarakhand-Bihar community engagement programme.

A group of about 50 students visited Bahuguna at his residence. The veteran environmentalist expressed happiness on interacting the the visiting children.

Student Avantika from Patna asked him where he got the Chipko movement idea from. He recalled that that trees only provide clean air, food, shade and oxygen without taking anything in return but had to be saved from the axe. To save the trees, the villagers including women and children embraced the trees with the contractors then not daring to chop the trees. When another student Ayush from Patna asked what kids could do to save the environment, Bahuguna replied that decreasing needs would help save the environment. Students from Dehradun, Shaurya, Vedansh and others in the group also shared their curiosity with him. The school president Rajat Mishra, its Dehradun director Himanshu Shekhar and his Patna counterpart Pradeep Kumar Mishra also honoured Bahuguna and his wife Vimla Bahuguna during the visit.
