A high school teacher was arrested on Monday from the Sharat police station area in Mayurbhanj district for allegedly impregnating a girl on the pretext of marriage and then betraying her. The accused teacher was identified as Suresh Chandra Marandi of the same locality.
Sources said the accused had developed physical relationship with a girl, who hails from a nearby village, on the promise of marrying her. But when the girl became pregnant, Marandi refused to marry her. Following this, the girl, who is now two months pregnant, lodged a complaint against Marandi at the Sharat police station. Acting on the complaint, the police have arrested the accused.
The medical examination of both the victim and the accused was conducted on the day. The accused was forwarded to court, police said.
