UP health services in a bad state: Akhilesh

Sunday, 29 September 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav flayed the Yogi Adityanath government for the poor state of public health services in Uttar Pradesh.
He charged that measures taken during the SP regime for improving health services had been rolled back by the present government.
“Public health service is facing the worst ever time in Uttar Pradesh. Large number of posts of doctors and para-medical staff are lying vacant   and many specialist doctors have resigned from the service and joined private hospitals after being disgusted with the affairs in the Health department,” said Akhilesh Yadav in a statement issued in Lucknow on Saturday.
The SP chief further said, “The state is in the grip of epidemic like dengue following wide-spread rains. But government hospitals are unable to cope with the rush of patients as neither medicines nor pathological tests are available in hospitals.”
Akhilesh Yadav said that ambulance services like 108 and 102 started for patients during the SP regime were in a shambles.
He said the ambulance services were in such a bad state that attendants of patients, including pregnant women, were forced to ferry patients to hospitals by rickshaw and even ‘thelas’ (carts).
“In many districts, patients have died while on way to hospital and also inside hospital due to the indifferent attitude of doctors and paramedics,” he said.
Akhilesh Yadav claimed that a number of public welfare schemes were started during SP regime, like free treatment and free medicine for serious ailments of kidney, liver and cancer and a cancer hospital was also set up in Lucknow.
He said that universal health insurance scheme Ayushman started by the BJP government had proved to be a non-starter and expensive medical equipment were gathering dust in hospitals.
He said that even as half the term of the Yogi Adityanath government was over, it was yet to formulate a roadmap for providing health services at affordable rates to the common man.
