Special director general planning management and technical services R K Vij has directed all the district traffic officials to prepare a road security plan and a working plan, identifying ‘black spots’ and accident prone and unsafe routes for necessary corrective measures and time to time reviews.
He was chairing a two-day review meeting on implementation of directives of a Supreme Court committee on road safety at police headquarters, Atal Nagar, Raipur on Tuesday.
Assistant inspector general of police Sanjay Sharma and traffic in-charges of all 27 districts participated in the meeting.
He directed the officials to take effective action against those violating the traffic rules and initiate suspension/cancellation of their driving license. Vij also answered queries of traffic officials and gave suggestions on implementation aspects.
“For safety aspect, there is an engineering angle so the ‘black spots’ can be modified to make the spot more safe. Besides, road sign and marking have to be installed at identified points,” Vij pointed out.
Dwelling on present traffic scenario, Vij emphasised on creating awareness among the people about traffic rules. He also called upon police to take initiative for road safety and traffic management while stressing on the need for coordination between traffic police and police administration, and also public participation in few sectors.
