Woman, 2 daughters die after car catches fire

A 35-year-old woman and her two daughters aged 5 and 2 years were charred to death after their car caught fire at a flyover near the Akshardham temple in east Delhi on Sunday evening. The woman’s husband and a 4-year-old daughter, who were sitting in front of the car managed to escape in the incident miraculously unhurt.

According to a senior police official, the couple have identified as Ranjana Mishra and her husband Upendra Mishra (38) who was driving the cat.

“The incident took place around 6.30 pm when the family was returning after offering prayers at Kalkaji Temple a d was headed to tbeir residence in Loni, Ghaziabad,” said Jasmeet Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), East District.

Chief fire officer from the Delhi Fire Service, Atul Garg said they got a call at tbeir control room at 6.33 pm reporting that a car has caught fire and people are trapped in it.

“Two fire tenders, one rescue responder and one disaster van were rush to the spot. The fire was doused but by then the occupants of the rear seat had died. Entire car was gutted,” said Garg.

“The cause of fire is

suspected to have started

from the CNG kit installed in the car boot. The exact reason is yet to be ascertained,” Garg said. DCP said prima facie it looks like the fire atarted from the CNG kit installed in the car. “It was a Datsun Go car. The man driver a vehicles and works for Cars 24. The car caught fire on flyover near Yamuna bank Depot.

The probable cause of fire is CNG cylinder which caught fire. One lady and her two children were inside. We are inveatigating the matter,” he said. Locals who witnessed the incident said that Mishra was driving towards the divider when the car caught fire. “In the time he slowly moved towards the footpath, to stop the car, more than half of it had been engulfed by the fire.

The man soon jumped out and pulled out his daughter who was sitting next to him on the front seat. People tried to unlock or break open therear door but failed,” said Babloo Kumar, who works at a tent house close to the accident site.
