In a tragic incident, a 32-year-old woman was charred to death on Saturday after a fire broke out in her house near Telghani Naka locality, Raipur.
According to police, the victim was identified as Suniti Bai Sahu, hailing from Kesla village of Bemetara district.
“The fire broke out on Saturday when Suniti was cooking a meal in the kitchen. While Suniti’s husband Chintaram Sahu, who works as a labourer had gone out for his work,” a local police officer said.
At the time of the incident the victim’s daughter and her nephew were at the home.
The kids were watching television in another room, they heard Suniti’s scream and saw her engulfed in fire, police officer added.
The kids ran out of the house and informed neighbours about the incident.
After being informed, fire tenders and police personnel rushed to the spot. They managed to douse the flames, which took about three hours of hectic efforts.
The exact cause of the blaze was yet to be ascertained, police said.
The victim’s body was sent for autopsy by the police. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
Meanwhile, district administration has sanctioned financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh for the family members of the deceased.
