Locals tonsured a married woman after she was found roaming with a distant brother-in-law at Sanakaliapada under the Nilgiri police station in the district on Saturday.
Sources said the woman had an illicit affair with the brother-in-law. Both of them had gone outside the village on August 21.
Livid with rage on getting information about the matter, the brother-in–law’s wife along with other relatives rushed to the woman’s house and dragged her out. They tonsured her head and paraded her around the village.
A complaint in this regard was lodged by the victim woman’s brother at the Nilgiri police station, following which five persons, including two women, were arrested in this connection.
Later, the victim was taken to a hospital for medical examination. And a probe into the matter is underway.
