Workshop on NAAC held in women’s college Daltonganj

Saturday, 23 February 2019 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

A day long workshop on NAAC was held on the premises of the Yodh Singh Namdhari Mahila College in Daltonganj on Friday. VC of the Nilamber pitamber university S N Singh and pro vice chancellor of the same university Pawan Kumar Poddar graced the occasion.

The host Mahila College’s professor in charge Mohini Gupta and her trusted hand in NAAC Vibha Pandey and their team had organized this workshop.

VC S N Singh said, “NAAC evaluation is now a must. It cannot be done away with but I am too saddened to say our college heads are just not getting this point any seriously and are not up for this NAAC evaluation as a result I am to face a lot of embarrassments in the meetings that are held in Raj Bhavan Ranchi where I am asked to explain as to why the track record of NP university is so dismal on the count of colleges not evaluated by NAAC so far.”

He said, “Our track record is 25 per cent, while other universities here have a track record of 75 per cent. This is too serious a matter and I am left in the lurch by my own team.”

The VC added further, “This workshop is a kind of ringing the alarm bells to the college heads not to sleep over this as it will have far reaching consequences of it even grant stoppage from the UGC.”

Pro Vice Chancellor Pawan Kumar Poddar who is the chairman of the NAAC Peer Team said in today’s time evaluation of colleges is too essential as higher education has become a serious victim of crass commercialism as he drawing a statistical comparison said when India was made free then this country had 20 universities and 496 colleges which is now 800 universities and number of colleges 30,000 in the country.

Poddar said “ This number of universities and colleges will outnumber any other country but when it comes to prime academic activity or research performance our country’s universities are to cut a sorry figure as none of the universities and the colleges of our country are nowhere on the list of 250 world’s best colleges.” NAAC is a ladder by which our colleges can try to compete with other colleges globally reiterated Poddar.

Sources said there are in all 21 colleges under this nP university out of which 5 are constituent colleges including dEgree college Manika, 6 permanent affiliated colleges and 10 affiliated colleges.

Poddar said evaluation by NAAC is a must for all these three categories of the colleges constituent, permanent affiliated and affiliated colleges and there is no escape from this. Advising college heads Poddar said, “It is time now for them to move forward for NAAC evaluation than to sulk in the past.”

State Government wants two most important formalities of NAAC evaluation to be ready and in order by this March end said VC for which state higher, technical education and skill development department has convened a meeting of all colleges in Ranchi on February 27 added VC.
