Yogi for emotional dialogue between patients and docs

Monday, 15 July 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Inaugurating the Smile Mashal Jyoti event here on Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that there should be emotional dialogue between patients and doctors.

“We have lost this dialogue in the present age of commercialism. Respect for doctors too has diminished due to priority being given to commercial interests,” he said.

The advice came a day after resident doctors at Lari Cardiology Centre of King George’s Medical University struck work after a few doctors were manhandled by the relatives of patients.

The Chief Minister said that Smile-like projects brought happiness on the faces of every section of society and also brought to fore the sensitive and humane face of doctors. “This initiative is an attempt to restore the dialogue between the doctors and the common man,” he said.

Describing Smile Mashal Jyoti programme as a big campaign, the Chief Minister said that if a large section of society join an awareness programme, it becomes a mass movement.

“There are three reasons for failure of any government scheme. First is that we do not plan it properly, secondly, there is lack of awareness of the plan, and thirdly, the people responsible for the programme do not discharge their duty properly,” he said.

During the programme, the Chief Minister honoured children associated with Smile Foundation. He also released a book on cleft care by Dr AK Singh of KGMU. The Chief Minister also honoured many doctors from different districts.

Prior to the inauguration of the programme, Smile Mashal Jyoti rally was organised at 1090 intersection. The rally was flagged off by Additional Chief Secretary Awanish Awasthi. Along with this, an awareness campaign was organised through a street play. The purpose was to bring smile in the lives of children born with cleft lips.

While flagging off the rally Awasthi said that special arrangements had been made for the treatment of children with cleft lips.

“It is a good effort to build confidence among children. A new life can be given to the children through the operation by Smile Campaign,” he said.

During the programme, Cabinet ministers Ashutosh Tandon and Rajesh Agarwal, Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia, all senior doctors associated with the Smile Mashal Jyoti programme were present.
