Maha records 6,417 new corona cases, 137 deaths

In a clear pointer to the flattening Covid-19 curve the infections dropped to 6,417 while the deaths came down to as low as 137 in Maharashtra on Saturday.

A day after Maharashtra on Friday logged 7347 new infected cases and 184 deaths in various parts of the state, the state health authorities heaved a sigh of relief as the infections and deaths dropped further in the state.

With 6,417 fresh infections, the total infected cases jumped from 16,32,544 to 16,38,961. Similarly, with 137 deaths, the total number of deaths mounted from 43,015 to 43,152.

As 10,004 more people were discharged from various hospitals in the state, the number of people discharged from various hospitals after full recovery since the second week of March this year went up to 14,55,107.

 The recovery rate in the state rose from 88.52 per cent to 88.78 per cent.

Of the total 137 new deaths reported on Saturday, Mumbai accounted for a maximum of 50 deaths, while there were 14 deaths in Pune and 10 deaths in Thane.

In the lower range, there were 8 deaths each in Solapur and Nagpur, 5 in Jalgaon, 4 each in Sangli and Yavatmal, 3 each in Ahmednagar, Latur, Beed, Nanded, Wardha and Chandrapur, 2 each in Raigad, Satara, Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, Jalna and Osmanabad and one death each in Palghar, Ratnagiri and Washim.

In addition, one person from outside the state died in Maharashtra.

With 50 deaths, the Covid-19 toll in Mumbai shot up from 10,009 to 10,059, while the  infected cases rose by 1,257 to trigger a jump in the infections from 248,802 to 250,059.

Meanwhile, the mortality rate in the state stood at 2.63 per cent. The number of “active cases” in the state dropped from 1.43,922 to 1,40,194.

Pune district, which continued to be the worst-affected city-district in Maharashtra, saw the total number of cases increase from 3,28,397 to 3,29,205, while the total number of deaths in Pune increased from 6581 to 6595.

Thane district remained in the third spot --after Pune and Mumbai – after the total number of infections from 2,16,596 to 2,18,352, while the pandemic toll rose  from 5258 to 5,268.

Out of 85,48,036 samples sent to laboratories, 16,38,961 have tested positive (19.17 per cent) for COVID-19 until Saturday.

Currently, 25,03,510 people are in home quarantine while 14,170 people are in institutional quarantine.
