Maha: 554 new COVID-19 cases in Thane; tally rises to 207591

The COVID-19 tally in Thane has Reached 2,07,591 with the addition of 554 new cases while the number of deaths has gone up to 5,240 with 17 more fatalities in the Maharashtra district, officials said on Tuesday.

As the number of new COVID-19 cases has come down, the Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC) has closed 31 out of the total 33 COVID-19 treatment facilities in the civic limits, they said.

As of now, there are 10,737 active COVID-19 cases in Thane district, while 1,91,614 patients have recovered.

The COVID-19 recovery rate in the district is 92.30 per cent, while the death rate is 2.52 per cent, an official from the district administration said.

In the Bhiwandi powerloom town, which was once a COVID-19 hotspot, there is no significant addition of daily cases and no death due to the infection has been reported since many days, BNMC spokesperson Milind Palsule said.

Hence, BNMC commissioner Dr Pankaj Ashiya has closed 31 out of the 33 COVID-19 centres in the town, he said.

With the addition of six cases on Monday, the COVID-19 tally in Bhiwandi has reached 5,832, while the town has a recovery rate of 90 per cent, the official said.

As of now, there are 252 active COVID-19 cases in Bhiwandi, while 5,249 patients have recovered.

The town has so far reported 331 deaths due to the viral infection, the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, an official from neighbouring Palghar said the district has so far reported 40,257 COVID-19 cases and 911 deaths due to the disease.
