Odisha reported 1,633 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, taking the state's tally to 2,81,215, a Health Department official said.
Sixteen more people died in the state, following which the toll rose to 1,245, he said.
Of the new cases, 955 were reported from different quarantine centres.
Khurda district, of which Bhubaneswar is a part, registered the highest 158 fresh cases, followed by Cuttack (132), Sundergarh (106) and Angul (100).
Two deaths each were reported from Khurda, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sundergarh and Balasore, while one patient each succumbed to the infection in Ganjam, Malkangiri, Puri, Keonjhar, Gajapati and Bargarh.
Of the total fatalities reported, Ganjam alone accounted for 226 deaths, followed by Khurda (212), Cuttack (105) and Puri (82).
There are 17,886 active cases in the state at present, while 2,62,031 patients have recovered so far.
The state has so far tested 43.18 lakh samples for COVID-19, including 37,801 on Saturday.
