Puducherry posted 493 fresh cases of coronavirus and six related fatalities on Tuesday, taking the overall tally of infections to 23,684.
Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release that six more people including four women died of the illness in government hospitals, pushing the toll to 473.
The new cases were identified after examination of 5,580 people.
While the fatality rate continued to remain at two percent, the recovery rate was 77.92 percent.
Of the 1.43 lakh samples tested so far 1.15 lakh were found to be negative and result of the examination of remaining samples was awaited, he said.
All the deceased patients had COVID pneumonia and were in the age group ranging between 37 and 87 years.
The Director said 389 patients recovered and were discharged during the last twenty four hours.
Of the total 23,684 COVID-19 patients 4,757 were active cases,18,454 patients recovered and were discharged so far and the total fatalities were 473, the official said.
