9 more Covid deaths; State toll now 305

Nine more persons succumbed to Covid-19 on Wednesday, breaching the 300-mark in the State’s death toll that surged to 305.

While four of the deceased belonged to Ganjam district, two were from Rayagada and one each from Baleswar, Angul and Khordha. The deceased of Ganjam district included a 48-year-old woman, a 57-year-old man, a 74-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man.

The deceased of Rayagada were both 65-year-old men. The other casualties included a 38-year-old man of Baleswar, a 44-year-old woman of Angul and a 58-year-old man of Khordha district.

On the day, the Covid caseload crossed 50,000 with 1,876 new positive cases detected from all 30 districts. With this, the total tally surged to 50,672. Of the new cases, 1,182 positives were detected from quarantine centres and 694 were local contacts.

Khordha district reported day’s highest 297 cases followed by Ganjam 260, Sundargarh 119, Cuttack 109, Nayagarh 105, Rayagada 98, Balasore 81, Puri 80, Koraput 77, Gajapati 71, Mayurbhanj 70, Kendrapada 58, Jajpur 53, Bhadrak 50, Kalahandi 41, Dhenkanal and Sambalpur 36 each, Balangir 31, Kandhamal and Nawarangpur 30 each, Jagatsinghpur 26, Malkangiri 24, Sonepur 22, Keonjhar 21, Angul and Bargarh 15 each, Boudh 10, Jharsuguda six, Nuapada three and Deogarh two.

However, another 1,673 patients recovered in the State on the day. With this, the total recoveries increased to 36,478. The highest 389 recovered in Ganjam district followed by the next highest 177 in Khordha, 163 in Sundargarh, 126 in Cuttack, 120 in Koraput and 100 in Puri.
