Excise officials on Friday intercepted a Bolero vehicle and during search seized 93 kg of ganja near Bharatpur here and arrested a person in connection with the case.
The accused was identified as Debendra Rout, a resident of Jajpur.Acting on a tipoff, Excise officials intercepted the Bolero near Khordha-Cuttack bypass and later recovered the contraband item, which was being transported to Bhubaneswar from Kandhamal district.
93 Kg ganja stacked in 92 packets was kept in a secret chamber of the vehicle. The vehicle had reportedly two to three such chambers. The excise team has also seized many registration number plates from the vehicle.
The registration plates were changed frequently to avoid any suspicion at the toll gates, police said.
Even as further investigation are underway the accused were forwarded to court later in the day.
