Amid lockdown 2 groups in Palamu vow to shun violence

Friday, 08 May 2020 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

Amid lockdown two groups of villagers drawn from two different villages under Chainpur police station in Palamu were all sword and stones against each other but for a very tactful handling by the Chainpur police led by its officer in charge Sunit Kumar and his team ugly scenes were aborted.

Sunit Kumar said a dalit youth first took some liquor and then began to peep into the house of a backward caste at village Ornar.

Sunit Kumar said those who saw him so peeping thought him to be a thief and then a hot chase began while this dalit was scurrying for his life. He said the dalit then entered the house of an upper caste there and begged for his life.

The upper caste family taking pity on him sheltered him only to find his house mobbed by a strong group of people shouting at this upper caste family head to release the sheltered youth.

It was a situation where one or two heads could have rolled down said Sunit Kumar and so he said he rushed to the village Ornar at 11 at night and SDPO Sandip Kr Gupta reached there by 11.30 am.

Sunit said the youth sensing trouble at this upper caste family jumped the wall from behind the house.

Danger was lurking on him as he could have been spotted and lynched as there was so much of anger against this dalit then added police officer.

On Wednesday the chasers and people belonging to the community from where came the chased sat together and resolved to drop this hostility and vowed to give this dalit youth a more big chance to prove his goodness.
