Online contest for  children on Aug 13

Chandigarh: Punjab School Education Department has decided to conduct painting competition for Classes VI to VIII, and essay competition for Classes IX to XII. These competitions will be held on August 13 under the ‘Gandgi Muket Mera Bharat’ campaign. All these competitions will be online in view of Covid-19. The District Education Officers have been directed to send the information of the first three entries in painting and essay competitions to the head office besides the best three paintings and three articles.

 

CPC condemns mob attack on journalists

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Press Club on Wednesday condemned the attack on three journalists — Prabhjit Singh, who is also a senior member of the Club, Shahid Tantray, and a woman journalist (identity withheld) of The Caravan magazine — at New Delhi. They were attacked while on a reporting assignment by the goons on Tuesday evening at Subhash Mohalla of Northeast Delhi. The Club demanded arrest of the goons, who attacked the journalists and assaulted the lady journalist, while describing the incident as “an attack on the freedom of press”. The Club is also forwarding a representation to Delhi Chief Minister office and Union Home Ministry for the action.

Chandigarh: The Indian Veterinary Association, in a representation to Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Giriraj Singh, sought introduction of National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) and National Artificial Insemination Programme (NAIP) across the country. IVA president Dr Chirantan Kadian said that combined vaccine of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (HS) should be introduced in other states of India.

 

PSPCL appeals to pay electricity bills online

Patiala: In view of COVID-19 pandemic, PSPCL chairman-cum-managing director A Venu Prasad on Wednesday made an appeal to its esteemed consumers to stay home and make payments of their electricity bills online to save their precious time, cost and energy. Giving information of seamless digital payment modes like PSPCL website, mobile apps namely UMANG, BHIM, Paytm, BBPS channels like PhonePe, Just Dial, Google Pay, Amazon, Payzapp and so on, Prasad said that PSPCL is striving hard to provide digital payments avenues for the benefits of society, especially during this Covid-19 period.

 

PU launches tree plantation drive

Chandigarh: On the occasion of Krishna Janamashtmi and International Youth Day, Panjab University’s Boys Hostel No. 5 on Wednesday organized a plantation drive at the hostel premises in the presence of PU Dean Student Welfare (Men) Professor SK Tomar and Dean Student Welfare (Women) Prof Sukhbir Kaur. After the plantation drive, the DSWs also released the Handmade Bags made by the children of migrant construction workers living at different construction sites of the PU campus.

 

PU to host 2ND Balramji Dass Tandon Memorial lecture

Chandigarh: BJP’s national president JP Nadda will be virtually addressing the second Balramji Dass Tandon Memorial Lecture as the chief guest. It will be broadcast live on all social media platforms or accounts of Tandon family and Panjab University. Notably, under the aegis of Punjab University and Balramji Dass Tandon Charitable Foundation, the first Balramji Dass Tandon Memorial Lecture was organized in 2019 on August 14 at PU Law Auditorium to mark the first death anniversary of Balramji Dass Tandon where the Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu delivered the keynote address on ‘honesty in public life’.
