The State Capital is likely to host the U-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup camp in the first week of September. The cost for the camp will be borne by the State government while it will be organised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
Chief Minister Hemant Soren had contacted the All India Football Federation and proposed to host the camp here. The entire expense for the camp will be taken care of by the State government.
The camp will have a total of 35 girls from various parts of the country. As many as eight girls from the State will also be part of it. These State players have already started with their practice sessions at the Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi. Owing to the lockdown, the players had been stranded at the homes and some of them were also struggling for basic food.
According to the sources at SAI, an inspection team from Kolkata had earlier visited the State capital in July to check the grounds and the various facilities. Apart from the ground, the inspection team was satisfied with the other amenities and had asked the authorities to mend the ground at the earliest. However, the report submitted by the Kolkata delegation is still awaited.
A delegation team from the federation under Alex Ambroze had also visited the State capital and inspected the facilities here. However, since the Central government has cancelled its affiliations, SAI has been directed to conduct the camp.
