Bereft of any fanfare due to COVID-19 pandemic, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath celebrated Guru Purnima in Gorakhnath temple on Sunday where he paid tribute to his gurus.
Yogi reached Gorakhpur in the afternoon after kicking off the Van Mahotsav campaign in Lucknow under which 25 crore trees were planted in one day on Sunday.
He paid tribute to his Guru Mahant Avaidyanath in Gorakhnath temple and also paid obeisance at the samadhi of Mahant Digvijay Nath. He also met the local sadhus and saints of the temple.
In a statement, he said: “Guru Maharaj (Mahant Avaidyanath) is not among us but his blessings will always remain with us. We are following his path of gau seva (service to cows), setting up educational institutions and hospitals and ensuring welfare of forest dwellers.”
In normal days, the Guru Purnima was celebrated in the temple complex with much fanfare where Yogi Adityanath used to address people. Because of the restriction in organising religious or social functions due to COVID-19, all functions, including the famous tilak samaroh, were cancelled, an associate of the chief minister said.
The chief minister will review the work plan made by the doctors of BRD Medical College to prevent spread of communicable diseases, including encephalitis, in a meeting on Monday. He will also inspect different wards of the BRD Medical College hospital.
Last week, the UP government launched a campaign against communicable diseases.
Yogi Adityanath will return to Lucknow on Monday afternoon.
