Chhattisgarh's ruling Congress on Wednesday slammed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) after an organization affiliated with the Hindu group hailed the state government’s ‘Gaudhan Nyay Yojna’ of purchasing cow dung.
State Congress spokesperson Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said in a statement that a large number of cows died during the previous Raman Singh’s government as BJP leaders misused funds sanctioned for cow shelter homes.
"Why did the RSS not teach a lesson to the BJP but are now showing love for cows,” he asked.
On Tuesday, RSS members welcomed the Chhattisgarh government’s decision to purchase cow dung from cattle owners but demanded that cow urine too be procured, citing its benefits in farming.
Members of ‘Gau Gram Swavlamban Abhiyan Chhattisgarh’, run mainly by RSS workers, on Tuesday met Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and handed over a memorandum while appreciating the 'Gaudhan Nyay Yojna' to be launched from July 21.
“We have been running a campaign from last one year for bovine protection, encouraging organic farming and to make villages self-reliant with a focus on our key demand from the government to purchase cow dung and urine,” said Bhuvneshwar Sahu, Convener of 'Gaur Gram Swavlamban Abhiyan'.
The appreciation by RSS has come at a time when the opposition BJP has been making fun of the scheme.
Former Minister and incumbent BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar recently uploaded a parody audio song on his Twitter handle which asked the youths to sacrifice their education as the state government has decided to make them collect cow dung.
