Congress to move EC over Imarti Devi remarks

Friday, 18 September 2020 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Woman and Child Development Minister is yet again in trouble over her speech at a public gathering in Dabra, Gwalior. A video of the Minister addressing a small gathering in Dabra constituency has gone viral in social media.

Addressing the locals, the Minister said, “We need eight seat to win (to remain in power) and they (Congress) requires win at all the 27 seats, so whether the satta (Government) will keep eyes closed and they will run away with all the wins.”

Amid applause from the crowd, she further said, “Whether Satta-Sarkar (Government) is so weak? If the Government asks any collector, he could make us victorious at any seat.”

The Congress party took strong objection to the remarks as soon as the video went viral and the party is planning to lodge complaint with the Election Commission of India. However, as the controversy gathered steam, Imarti Devi said that the BJP would win on development, Chief Minister’s face and leaders’ hard work.

Congress spokesperson Bhupendra Gupta commenting on the remarks from the minister said she is a Cabinet Minister and has publically expressed what is discussed in Cabinet meetings of Shivraj Government. We will complain to the EC and will ensure the government machinery remains impartial in polls, added the leader.

Imarti Devi was in the news recently saying corona virus can’t roam around her as she was born in mud and cowdung. A staunch loyalist of BJP Rajya Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia, Imarti Devi had resigned from Congress and as minister in March and is now part of Shivraj cabinet and most likely will contest from Dabra seat in Gwalior in the by-poll.
