Cop among three killed in mishap

A police team returning after recovering teenage lovers who eloped from their houses in Lakhimpur Kheri, met with an accident in Hapur in which three persons, including a police constable, were killed while four others were critically injured.
The accident took place late on Saturday night and the injured were shifted to Meerut medical college hospital for treatment.
Reports said that Rinku aka Jaswant, a native of Rampura Simri in Dhauraura locality of Lakhimpur Kheri was in love with one Rekha, a resident of the same area.
As the families were opposed to their affair so they eloped few days back on which the girl’s parents lodged a case of kidnapping of Rekha and accused Rinku.
According to Station House Officer Mahendra Kumar Tripathi, they traced the locality of Rinku and Rekha in Gurugram in Haryana so a police team was dispatched to recover them.
The team got success and recovered both on Saturday night. They immediately took them in custody and left to return Lakhimpur Kheri.
However, the driver of Bolero, Meraj Ali, was reportedly tired after driving the vehicle for the whole day so when he was passing through Simbhawali Sugar Mill on NH-9 in Hapur, the vehicle collided first with a divider and then rammed with a car coming from opposite direction.
Reports said that some local residents came to their rescue and shifted them to a local hospital where a police constable, Sachin Kumar, along with the driver Meraj, and accused Rinku were pronounced dead upon arrival while the sub-inspector Dharmendra Yadav, who was heading the team, along with lady constable, Deepika Yadav and the girl Rekha, and Vinod Kumar, a resident of Moradnagar, Ghaziabad, who was driver of the other car, were referred to Medical College in Meerut, after finding their condition to be also `critical’.
A case has been registered and all the bodies have been sent for postmortem.
