Councillors accuse MCD of neglecting issues of new wards

Wednesday, 05 August 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

The councillors of  new wards of Dehradun accused the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) of neglecting  issues of  new 40 wards out of the 100 wards. The councillors met municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey and conveyed their issues to him. They stated that  corporation has not provided adequate sanitation facilities in new wards of Dehradun. According to councillors, proposal of increasing sanitation workers in  new wards was passed in last board meeting but no additional sanitation worker was provided to councillors of  new wards so far which is causing hindrance in maintaining cleanliness in their respective wards. They opined that  MCD should pay more attention to  improvement of  new wards by taking measures like installation of street lights besides ensuring proper sanitation and garbage collection facilities but the corporation is doing all such things only in older wards. According to  councillor of Bharuwala Grant, Rajesh Parmar, the MCD claimed to install LED street lights in some of  new wards but most of  street lights are old which were previously installed in  old wards. "Hardly any new LED street lights were installed by corporation in the new wards. All  street lights installed in  new wards are damaged lights from the old wards which were installed in our wards after repairing. We get complaints every other day from  residents of our wards that  street light has stopped working again. It is not  right attitude of the corporation towards  people of  new wards," said Parmar. Moreover, the councillors also said that there is no proper facility of garbage dumping and door to door garbage collection in  new wards provided by MCD as in old wards. The new wards also include some suburban areas where bushes have grown on side of  roads leading to water accumulation which is a potential place for mosquitoes breeding, said councillors. Parmar said that they met  municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey on Tuesday regarding  said issues and he has assured them to look into  matter.
