CS fiat to complete works of Kanhar Barrage in time

Chief Secretary Dr DK Tiwari has instructed to expedite the works for Kanhar Barrage meant for irrigation of farm land in Garhwa and Palamu district of the State. Reviewing the works of the project here on Tuesday the CS fixed time limit of all preliminary works of the barrage and instructed the officials to execute the works in the set time frame.

At the same time, the Chief Engineers of Water Resources Department of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand were instructed to jointly clarify the ownership status of the land on the border of the two states by February 28 and submit a joint report.

Notably, Jharkhand is considering 58.01 hectares of land attached to the project with Chhattisgarh, but Chhattisgarh says that this land is 79.55 hectares. The actual status land on the boundary line is not clear and that is why project work is not progressing as expected.

The Kanhar Barrage project would require a total of 1,019 hectares of land in Palamu and Garhwa districts. Out of that, the actual location of 866.62 hectares has been known. During the review, the Deputy Commissioners of both the districts stated that the nature of 90 plots of the marked land is yet to be clear. The Chief Secretary directed the Deputy Commissioners to clarify the condition of the entire land by February 3.

At the same time, clarifying the nature of the land, the forest department was directed to make the land available for forest clearance online. The Water Resources Department and the Forest Department were instructed to complete the work of marking the trees on the land related to forest clearance by April 30.

The farmers of Garhwa district will get the most benefit from the construction of a barrage on the Kanhar River entering Chhattisgarh from Jharkhand. There is a plan to irrigate the fields of Bhawanathpur, Bishunpur, Chinia, Dandai, Dhurki, Garhwa, Kandi, Ketar, Majhiyan, Meral, Nagar Untari, Ramna, Ranka and Chainpur blocks of Palamu with barrage water in Garhwa.

Additional Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Singh, Chief Engineers of Water Resources department of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand alongwith senior officials were present on the occasion.
