Farmers to be paid for paddy within a week: CM

Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat launched the Deendayal Upadhyay Sahakarita Kisan Kalyan Yojana at a function in Rudrapur on Saturday.

Under the scheme, the CM distributed cheques for interest free loan of Rs three lakh to farmers on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the CM reiterated that the state government is committed to the welfare of farmers. Earlier, interest free loan of upto Rs one lakh was provided to the farmers which had achieved positive results. Due to the good use of the earlier loan by the farmers, the loan amount has been raised to Rs three lakh. On the occasion the CM also unveiled the foundation for developmental works amounting to Rs 9444 lakh and inaugurated development works amounting to Rs 2578 lakh.

The CM distributed cheques for Rs three lakh loan each to 19 farmers under the Deendayal Upadhyay Kisan Kalyan Yojana along with farming equipment to three farmers. Rawat also presented cheques for interest free loan of Rs five lakh each to representatives of different self help groups. He said, “The State government is consistently working on doubling the income of farmers in order to improve their standard of living. Despite the difficult conditions resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, our farmers increased their produce in the state. The State government arranged for payment to farmers in record time for their produce. By making Rs 250 crore provision, the government fully cleared the dues of sugar cane farmers in a record time.” Stating that 10 lakh metric tonnes of rice was purchased through 242 purchase centres, the CM announced that farmers will be paid within a week for paddy.

Rawat said that the state government has taken various public welfare decisions in the spheres of health, education, drinking water facilitation and others. For effective implementation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheme to provide tap water in every home by 2024, water connections in rural areas will be provided for Re one each instead of Rs 2,360 each and in urban areas for Rs 100 each instead of Rs 6,000. Clean tap water will be provided in every home in Uttarakhand by 2022. Tap water supply in each home will be ensured in Dehradun and Bageshwar districts by December this year, he added.

He reiterated that the state government is maintaining a zero tolerance policy for corruption. He recalled that the state government had started its fight against corruption from Udham Singh Nagar district where action was taken against 111 employees and officers for the Rs 200 crore irregularity in the national highway 74 widening work. Stating that the government will continue to fight against corruption, the CM said that anyone found guilty of involvement in corruption will surely face action. Equating corruption to the actions of termites, he stressed on the importance of eradicating it. Stating that Dehradun and Pantnagar airports will be developed according to international standards, he said that the Pantnagar airport will be developed as a greenfield airport on 1,100 acres. By linking Udham Singh Nagar to the whole world, this airport will also facilitate all-round development in the region while also generating employment opportunities. In the health sector too the government is undertaking varied efforts. The construction of medical colleges in Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar and Pithoragarh is underway at a good pace and soon these will be dedicated to the public.

The State minister for Cooperatives, Dhan Singh Rawat informed the gathering about various schemes of the department. Cabinet minister Arvind Pandey and MP Ajay Bhatt also expressed their views on the occasion.
