Five persons held for running IPL betting racket in Goa

Chhattisgarh Police arrested five persons, including two from Durg city and three from Goa, for running an IPL betting racket from a residential apartment in the coastal state's Candolim town.

Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal told The Pioneer over telephone that Rajesh Gandhi (45), Mahendra Patel (26) and Aman Gandhi (24) were held in Goa while Rajesh Bajaj alias Raja (29) and Mahesh Kamalani (40) were arrested in Durg.

Mahendra hails from Madhya Pradesh and other four accused are residents of Bilaspur city in Chhattisgarh.

Police seized seven mobile phones, a LED TV, `54,000 in cash and two separate betting records detailing transactions of `50 lakh each from them, Agrawal said.

They were accepting bets from their clients in Chhattisgarh on phone, the officer said.

Police have arrested 52 persons so far for operating IPL betting rackets in Bilaspur district.
