Folk singer Malini Awasthi performs at MPSTM’s ‘Gamak’

The music lovers of the city enjoyed Tuesday evening with the classical ragas and folk music.

Marking the eve of Gamak series at Madhya Pradesh State Tribal Museum a renowned folk singer Malini Awasthi gave a splendid performance before the music lovers of the city. The programme began with a lecture by Malini Awasthi on Folk Tradition and Women Empowerment followed with a fabulous performance by Malini.

Malini talked about the role of women in folk tradition and how they have progressed over time.

The classical music lovers were mesmerized with the tuneful presentation of Bhojpuri classical sangeet, presented by Malini Awasthi. Her performance was feet tapping. As she began her performance, the audiences were enthralled as she along with her troupe performed with a lot enthusiastic approach.

Notably, Malini is highly acclaimed for her gaayaki and her powerful performances. Singing the various forms of folk music from Benaras and Awadh like the Dadra, Sohar, Banna, Jhoola, Kajri, Holi, Chaiti, Vivaah, Dhobiya, Nirgun, are her forte. She has showcased these different forms of folk music in her own way.

Some of these forms, which are almost dying forms when sung on the stage, mesmerized the viewers and took the nation by a storm.

A disciple of the Thumri proponent Padma Vibhushan Girija Devi Ji, today Malini is one of the leading Thumri singers of the Benaras Gharana. Malini is recognized for her distinctive style of singing which is a beautiful combination of soulful renditions of melodies together with her powerful performances. Equally accomplished in Ghazal and Sufi gaayki, Malini reminds you of the old world charm of the beautiful Lucknow and the Ganga-Jamuni culture of Uttar Pradesh.

She performed Thumree to which the audience listened to her with rapt attention. Later, she gave other mesmerizing performances that were much enjoyed by the audience with a lot of ecstasy.
