Girl ostracised for sex slur against Sarpanch

Friday, 29 May 2020 | MAlAY RAY | SUNDARGARH

A poor girl of Sundargarh district, who had lodged a complaint in Talsara police station against the local Sarpanch for asking her to keep physical relationship with her on the pretext of giving job to her brother, has been reportedly ostracised by the villagers.

The BDO of Balishankara block will go to village of girl on Thursday and will conduct enquiry.

Iswardan Minz, a resident of Nimdih village under Rampur panchayat under Talsara police station of Sundargarh district, was working as Gaon Sathi in Rampur panchayat. During the year 2018, Iswardan had passed away following which the family members of Iswardan had become helpless. After few months, daughter of Iswardan had approached Sarpanch of Rampur panchayat Susant Khalko, to engage her or her brother in Gaon Sathi position in which her father was working. Sarpanch had told her to bring approval of the same from Gramsabha and Pallisabha. In Gramsabha and Pallisabha, girl’s brother’s name had been approved for Gaon Sathi job, but thereafter the Sarpanch reportedly delayed  the appointment of her brother. When the girl again requested him for appointing her brother for the position, the Sarpanch allegedly told her to keep physical relationship with him.

After a case was registered against the Sarpanch on the basis of a complaint of girl, the girl's caste society in village had called a meeting near the Nimdih church which the girl's mother, brother and sister attended, but the girl didn’t. The meeting decided to ostracise her and her family.

"I will conduct an inquiry and take necessary action to give justice to the girl and her family," said Balishankara BDO Badanti Lakra.
