Guv felicitates differently abled Jitendra Kumar

Tuesday, 30 June 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

Jitendra Kumar of Devri Road, Agra had lost both his legs in a road accident. Before assuming the post of Uttarakhand Governor, Baby Rani Maurya had given a tricycle to Kumar. Later, he was also able to get prosthetic legs due to Maurya’s efforts. He then started a new life and began operating an e-rickshaw to earn his livelihood. Not accepting failure during the lockdown, he resumed operating the vehicle after the lockdown was lifted. During her Agra visit, Maurya inquired about his well being and flieicated him. She said that while all are facing challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic, the differently abled are also facing challenges.

However, Kumar proved that the differently abled persons are no less than others especially if they get the proper assistance at the right time. The governor said that though the differently abled may be physically or mentally affected, the public attitude of looking down upon such people is the biggest challenge.

People need to change their mentality towards differently abled persons, she stressed. She added that she would review the welfare and rehabilitation schemes for the differently abled in Uttarakhand soon.
