In a big relief to Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Baghmara MLA Dhulu Mahato, who was taken into judicial custody on charges of sexual exploitation of a female leader, the Jharkhand High Court granted bail to the MLA on Friday. With this, the way of his coming out of jail was cleared.

Justice, R Mukhopadhyay reserved the verdict after the hearing on the previous date earlier and he granted bail to Mahato on Friday.

Mahato appealed for bail in the High Court after his bail plea from the lower court was rejected. On the last date, Justice R Mukhopadhyay heard the arguments of all the parties and reserved the judgment. On that day, Mahato’s lawyer said that his client has been implicated under the conspiracy and many cases have been filed against him due to political malice.

The Court approved the bail plea of Mahato, who has been spending his time behind bars for almost three months. He was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court on a personal bond of Rs 25,000.

The Jharkhand Government said in the Court that more than 34 cases were registered against the MLA. Mahato is lodged in Dhanbad Jail since May 11, 2020. He has been granted bail in all cases. Only in a case related to physical exploitation of a woman leader from Katras, he was not granted bail.

It is to be known that the former BJP woman leader from Dhanbad district had accused Mahato for sexually abusing her. The woman leader alleged that the MLA has pressured them to withdraw the case. On not doing so, she was threatened to face dire consequences.

Police registered an FIR against the MLA on October 4, 2019 on the orders of the High Court. Later the statement of the victim under section 164 was recorded on February 15, 2020.

The victim had given a statement in the Court that in November 2015, that Mahato had raped her forcibly in the Tundu guest house of Hindustan Zinc. The victim told the Court that when she went to the guest house, there was Anand Sharma. Ayodhya Thakur and Anand Sharma had told him many times that the MLA likes her and if she listens to him, he will make her rich.
