Pratapgarh was rocked with a sensational killing when an old man was hacked to death inside a police station campus. Interestingly, senior officers acted only when the victim died in hospital. However they just suspended a head-constable and two constables while no action was taken so far against the station house officer.
According to reports, the cops of the Raniganj police station had brought two brothers- Mithai lal and Mewa Lal, hailing from Aamapur Barra, to police station in connection with property dispute on Friday evening. Mewa’s son Dinesh was also detained. However, the situation took ugly turn when a youth also brought to the police station by the cops of the Dial-112, suddenly attacked Mithai Lal inside the police station with the spade. The critically injured victim was taken to local hospital from where he was referred to Medial College in Prayagraj. The victim finally succumbed on Saturday evening.
After the victim died, SP Pratapgarh, Abhieskh Singh, placed three cops under suspension. Singh said that head constable Rajit Ram Sharma, constables Rajesh Kumar and Shivam Kharwar were suspended while the probe was handed over to SP East, Surendra Dwivedi to look into the role of SHO of Raniganj police station, Mritunjay Mishra.
In another incident in Bareilly, a jilted lover shot at a girl just two days before her marriage and later committed suicide. Raj Babu, a resident of Ismailpur locality of Bisaratganj, lodged a report with the local police in which he alleged that his brother Amit Gupta (22), was in love with Baby Pal, residing in his neighbor. As Amit is having his shop just adjacent to Baby’s house so they met frequently. However, Guddu’s father has fixed marriage of Baby somewhere else in Dataganj area and she is to be married on June 16 but the girl refused and said that she will marry only Amit. He claimed that on Sunday morning, when Baby was going to attend call of nature along with other family members, his brother Amit intercepted her and asked her to elope with him to marry. However, when Baby refused to do so, Amit opened fire at her and later also shot himself dead. The girl was admitted in a local hospital with bullet injury on her stomach and hand. SP Dehat, Dr Sansar Singh, said that they registered a case and were making further probe.
Meanwhile in Kannauj, a groom died of electrocution just when he was getting ready for his golden night. Mujeeb (25), a resident of Sakrawa hamlet of Saurikh in Kannauj was married to Bhuri, hailing from Gursahaiganj on Friday night. Before the two were getting ready for their golden night on Saturday, the groom tried to fix the cooler which he got from his in-laws as gift. As he switched on the cooler, he came in contact with live fire and was electrocuted. The family members rushed him to hospital but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
