The Ranchi Police has come under line of fire for not tracking police personnel who is the key accused of gangrape case where accused along with two others had gang raped a 14 years old girl on August 12 at the police guest house at Old Police Line under Lower Bazaar Police station of the capital city.

Concerned over delay in the investigation Governor Droupadi Murmu on Sunday summoned Jharkhand DGP MV Rao where she directed police to ensure arrest of the accused and also expressed concern over a minor being raped at the police guest house by police personnel. Hours after the Raj Bhavan intervened in the matter; Ranchi police picked two persons for questioning to establish identity of the third accused.

She also conveyed to DGP in clear terms that such incidents tarnish image of Jharkhand Police. Governor who is learnt to be unhappy over poor investigation by the police also summoned chairperson of Ranchi District Children Welfare Committee Rupa Kumari to inquire about the status of the case. Two accused namely Vipul and Karan were arrested but the third accused who the victim could identify by his title Sharmaji is still traceless.

Victim came into contact with the accused Vipul through social sites who also invited her to meet her. Trusting him she came to meet her near the Old Police Line where that accused police personnel was also present. They took her inside the guest house and raped her. Vipul booked a cab and sent her to Palamu under custody of his friend Karan. Her father lodged a case of kidnapping the next day when his daughter did not return. She was finally recovered on August 18. She was produced before Ranchi District Children Welfare Committee where her statement was recorded.
